In this blog, we provide a comprehensive overview of the latest legal updates across property law, commercial law, personal legal services, and migration. 1. Property Law & Real Estate (Queensland)

• New rules for sellers (effective 1 August 2025): Sellers must provide full disclosure of property details, including any existing contracts, easements, and building approvals. Failure to comply may lead to liability for misrepresentation.
• Buyers’ responsibilities: Buyers are now required to carefully review all contract documents before signing. Legal advice is strongly recommended.
• First-home buyers: Stamp duty scrapped for new builds to make homeownership more affordable. Grants and incentives remain, but eligibility requirements apply.
• Digital conveyancing: PEXA and other platforms are now standardised for settlements in QLD, speeding up settlements but requiring accurate digital verification of documents.

• Debt recovery: New court guidance emphasises formal steps before initiating recovery, including demand letters and mediation, to avoid unnecessary litigation.

3. Consumer Protection

• Australian Consumer Law (ACL) updates continue to strengthen remedies for misleading or deceptive conduct. Businesses must provide accurate information about products, services, and warranties.
• Home building: Builders and contractors must comply with updated licensing and insurance obligations under state legislation, including defect rectification obligations.

4. Migration & Personal Legal Services

• Visa and migration updates: Immigration law changes impact temporary and skilled visa holders; compliance with visa conditions remains a legal requirement.

• Personal injury: Workers’ compensation and personal injury claims continue to be updated for QLD and other states, focusing on timely reporting and employer obligations.

5. Technology & Legal Compliance

• Digital signatures and document verification are now legally accepted across property and commercial transactions in most states.

• Privacy updates: Businesses must comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and state privacy rules when handling client data.
