Things to consider
Awards and the National Employment Standards
Most employment in Australia is governed by the Fair Work Act, the National Employment Standards and, often, a modern award. Contracts cannot provide less than these minimums.
Employee or contractor?
Labelling a worker a contractor does not settle the question. Getting classification wrong can expose a business to back-payments and penalties.
Process matters
Disciplinary and termination decisions should follow a fair process. Seeking advice early can reduce the risk of claims.
Common questions
Do you act for employees?
This page is for business owners and employers. If you are an employee, contact us and we will let you know whether we can assist.
Do I need written employment contracts?
Written contracts make expectations clear and help protect confidential information. Employers must also provide certain information statements to new employees.
General information only, not legal advice. Submitting an enquiry does not create a solicitor-client relationship.
